Principal’s Message

Hello Parkside Families!

As you may have heard in the Penn-Delco messaging earlier this week, our school has been designated a Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon School for 2025!  This award is a testament to the commitment of our entire community to meet children where they are and provide the support they need to be the best version of themselves—academically, socially, and emotionally. We are fortunate to have the staff, students, parents and community partners that have given the foundation for excellence that we are committed to continuing.  It takes a village, and we have a great one here in Parkside!  Keep an eye out for details about the Blue Ribbon Celebration that we are planning for October.

Leader in Me:

School-wide jobs will be reviewed in class next week so that student know which jobs they can apply for this fall.  Job applications are being distributed on Monday, September 29th and are due on Friday, October 3rd.  Please talk to your child about school jobs and encourage them to pursue a leadership role.  Just like in life, we have fewer jobs than students, but we do our best to ensure that as many different students as possible are empowered through school jobs.  If they apply and are not hired in the fall, they will have another opportunity in the spring.  We have seen great leadership in our students through school jobs and look forward to hiring our fall to winter workforce!

General Reminders:

Arrival/Dismissal

  1. If you are dropping a child off by car in the morning, pull all the way around to the stop sign so that your child can walk along the sidewalk to the entrance.  Stopping a the front doors backs up traffic onto Edgmont Ave.
  2. Please leave your pets at home!  Although I love animals, some students are allergic or fearful so we ask that you not have your pet on school property.
  3. At dismissal, please park and walk up instead of using the carline if you need to get out of the car.  If a child needs to be buckled in, park in the playground lot and walk up to get them so that the carline flows continuously.  Back ups impact businesses in our driveway and traffic on Edgmont Ave.

From the Nurse:

Unfortunately, the Health Heroes Vaccination Clinic will be cancelled this year, please disregard the information sent home earlier this month.

It’s that time of year, again—cold and flu season will be here before we know it and we’ve already seen the “Back to School” germs take their toll on some.  Remind your child that hand-washing and using good hygiene practices will help stop the spread of germs!

Please remember that if your child has a fever, they should remain home from school until they are fever-free without medication.  They should also stay home if they have been vomiting or have diarrhea.  Once they are symptom-free for 24 hours, they may return.

From the School Counselor:

Students seemed to have settled in and are happy entering the building each morning.  If your child is struggling to get to school (getting upset, ill, or anxious), please reach out for assistance.

Counseling Services at Parkside:  Students can fill out a “note to see the counselor” if they would like to talk about their feelings or anything getting in the way of their success.  At times students and families experience unplanned events that cause distress. Ms. Sayre can be a support and a resource.

Ms. Sayre at (610) 497-6300 x6508 or nsayre@pdsd.org

Intern: Ms. Karly Pratt who is finishing her Masters in School Counseling at Villanova University will be working with Ms. Sayre three days a week for the entire school year.  We are happy to have her!

Parkside Food Bank - If your family is in need of food, you can email parksidefooddrive@gmail.com for info on the hours of operation.  The food bank is located at the Parkside Fire Station.

Parent Tech Tip from Technology Teacher, Ms. Cameron

October is National Bullying Awareness Month

What does Cyberbullying look like? Cyberbullying doesn’t always look like playground bullying—it can take the form of mean comments, repeated teasing in group chats, exclusion from online games, or spreading rumors through social media. Because it often happens on personal devices, parents may not see it right away. Children may also be hesitant to share if they feel embarrassed or afraid of losing device privileges. Families can help by creating an open-door policy: kids should know they can always talk about something that feels uncomfortable online without fear of punishment. Action step: This week, start a conversation with your child by asking, “Have you ever seen something online that felt unkind or unfair?” Listen without judgment and discuss together what steps they could take if it happens again.

From the PTL:

Those who would like to march in the SV Homecoming Parade, must sign up using the link below.  All students must be accompanied by an adult and will receive complimentary tickets to the football game after the parade.
